Hi! I’m Shannon.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved movement — both doing it and learning about it. Like most kids, I didn’t really like to sit still. After my first interaction with a soccer ball at age five, I dedicated the next couple decades to traveling around the state, country, and globe playing the beautiful game at the highest level. That dedication ultimately led me to the University of California, San Diego, where I competed as an intercollegiate soccer player and cyclist while earning a B.S. in Physiology & Neuroscience and a B.A. in International Relations.
My journey to Pilates began with an attempt to heal myself from years of high-intensity sport. After years of pushing my body to its max, I found myself with knee pain that I just couldn’t shake. So I did what I was “supposed to do” and made an appointment to see a physical therapist. For six months, I did my prescribed exercises every single day like clockwork. But in spite of all that commitment, I saw zero improvement. If I missed a day, I was back to square one.
I had never felt more defeated and began to question if I could actually trust what I felt within my own body.
As I tearily relayed my story to a coworker, she casually asked me if I had ever tried Pilates. I had taken one mat class in college, but other than that, I didn’t really know much about it. But I knew I had zero to lose, so I gave it a try.
A few days later, I signed up for a reformer class at a studio right around the corner from my office. After just three classes in the span of one week, the pain and instability I was struggling with for half a year were gone. I couldn’t believe it.
Not only did I suddenly have a newfound sense of hope, but I also realized that yes, my feelings about my body were in fact correct the entire time and I was right to trust them.
That week I made a lifelong commitment to learn everything I possibly could about Pilates, anatomy, and human movement. While I initially pursued biomechanics education for my own benefit, I realized very quickly that I wanted to use my newfound knowledge to help others. In 2016, I became a Pilates teacher so I could realize my passion of helping others listen to and understand their bodies, advocate for themselves, and empower them to do things they once thought impossible.
After completing a 500-hour certification program through Body Harmonics as well as hundreds of hours of continuing education, I am proud to be a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) and hold a Diploma of Clinical Pilates focusing on movement rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise through Breathe Education.
If you’d like to learn more about how we can work together, shoot me a note. I look forward to meeting you!
